The project is located in Shapotou National Nature Reserve, Zhongwei, Ningxia, at the southeast edge of Tengger Desert. This place combines deserts, the Yellow River, mountains, and oases, with the magnificent scenery of the northwest and the beautiful scenery of the south. Here you can ride a camel across the Tengger Desert, ride an SUV to surf the sand sea, and enjoy the wonders of desert smoke and long river sunset within a short distance.

The desert, as a natural existence, has its own unique attributes. The huge temperature difference between day and night, intense ultraviolet radiation, harsh sandstorms, extreme drought and other factors make the desert inherently unsuitable for human habitation. Without the support of modern technology, it is almost impossible for humans to survive in the desert. Therefore, building a hotel in the desert is a highly challenging event for designers, and humans have always held great reverence from beginning to end. The desert is always vast and mysterious, romantic and cruel, desolate and passionate, peaceful and unpredictable.

This building just stands there quietly, giving people a sense of power. This power can allow people to escape complexity, return to the inner universe, regain energy, and reach spiritual freedom.

The designer’s inspiration lies in wanting to create the purest, strongest, and eternal place, just like diamonds – dazzling, solid, stable, yet clear and transparent. Its purity is like an endless desert, evoking a sense of emptiness – the impermanence and selflessness of all things. The power of emptiness contains enormous potential; Its solidity is like its name “adamas” (derived from Greek), meaning “unbeatable or unconquerable”. Diamond is a polished diamond, the hardest substance in the world, and it symbolizes unwavering faith and indomitable will; Diamonds can resist fire and steel, possess supernatural powers, and symbolize eternity.

In addition, through special cutting and polishing, colorless and pure diamonds can emit a dazzling rainbow of light under the refraction of light, resembling a brilliant starry sky. Ningxia is known as the “hometown of stars”, and the nights at Shapotou are particularly peaceful. Stargazing is a romantic activity that has lasted for thousands of years, with stars shining brightly in the night sky. The Desert Star Hotel in the first phase of this project (A, B, C areas) has become the first popular resort hotel in China with a theme of desert starry sky due to its high level of discussion. As the second phase, this project is designed to cater to customers with higher quality and spiritual needs. It is a wild luxury boutique resort hotel with a more distinctive theme that can bring a unique experience. At this point, the concept of “diamond” connects the desert with the starry sky, and people with nature, becoming the starting point for designers’ designs.

The vastness and tranquility of the desert have completely different attributes from the fireworks of the city. When designers think about cities and the architecture and space within them, they often approach it with more rational thinking and judgment, leaning towards humanistic care, while also emphasizing the relationships between people and discussing publicness. In the face of the unique terrain of the desert, humans first respect and awe it. Here, the existence of architecture is more like a medium, emphasizing the relationship between humans and nature. By creating an experience, it transforms a primitive nature into a place connected to humans, establishing a deeper connection between humans and nature through “artificial architecture”. This process relies more on intuition and intuition.

The farther away from the hustle and bustle of the city, the closer you are to your true self, and the easier it is to release the energy deep inside. Here, people are more likely to obtain spiritual satisfaction. People come here not to seek a comfortable experience, but to experience the most primitive state of nature and seek an extraordinary ultimate experience. These unique experiences contrast greatly with people’s lives in the city, but undoubtedly they are also a part of people’s pursuit of a complete life.

Architecture releases the potential natural energy in the desert through construction, transforming it into something that people can personally experience. We want to enhance the sense of contrast and depth of experience, creating a supplement and infinite extension of urban life.
